5th Annual State House Rotunda Engineering/Technology Education Day

Engineering and Technology educators displayed the state's finest Engineering/Technology activities in the North Atrium of the Rotunda at the State Capitol building February 11th, 2009 from 12:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

This event was a great opportunity for the public, legislators and other elected officials to see the Indiana Engineering and Technology Education Curriculum that is being implemented by Engineering and Technology teachers across the state of Indiana. Public school students from Lake Michigan to the Ohio River have participated in the past. Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr.Tony Bennett addressed students during the event.

The last four years have been a tremendous success. The legislators enjoy talking to students and the lawmakers who visit understand a great deal more about Technology/Engineering Education and all of the various courses that are taught in the state curriculum. Purdue, Ball State and Indiana State Universities were on hand to preview how future Technology and Engineering Educators are being prepared. This year we  emphasized how engineering and technology education have merged within our state curriculum. Special recognition was paid to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development who has greatly enhanced opportunities for students to pursue careers in STEM, especially in Engineering and Technological studies throughout Indiana with financial support and leadership in developing Project Lead the Way programs and helping schools begin programs in robotics. Project Lead the Way and other pre-engineering schools participated. Also, this year schools with VEX Robotics in their curriculum were on board again. Playing fields were set in the center of the North Atrium and VEX Robot competition echoed thru the halls of our state government.
