GDCEDC OFFERS YOUNGSTERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN TECHNOLOGY & ROBOTS
GREENSBURG DECATUR COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION OFFERS YOUNGSTERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN MORE ABOUT TECHNOLOGY & ROBOTS- AND PARENTS PEACE OF MIND THIS SUMMER
For both parents and kids, it is never too early to start thinking about summer vacation. Parents are concerned with ensuring that their children are safe, supervised, and engaged in activities that keep their minds active when school lets out for the summer. Youngsters eagerly anticipate the free time, and simply want to have fun and learn something new. Lego Robotics Camps are a solution designed to keep everyone happy this summer.
Greensburg Decatur County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is offering two sessions of Lego Robotics Camps for $50 dollars; either a morning session June 22-25, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM or an afternoon session June 22-25, 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The Lego Robotics Camps will be held at the Greensburg Community Learning Center and are designed to help children ages 9-13 better understand technology and work productively with others to solve challenges by building and programming robots using Lego. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
“Gone are the days when day camp meant making pot holders or learning how to tie knots,” said Lisa Deck, Economic Opportunities through Education by 2015 County Coordinator. “Today, summer day camp programs need to be as unique as the students themselves. We are offering kids an exceptional opportunity to experience real-world activities, such as teamwork, problem solving, and working with technology that they often don’t experience during the school year. This camp will help encourage students to begin thinking about exciting career opportunities in the engineering and advanced manufacturing fields.”
During camp, the students will: learn to program a robot to move and program with touch, light, sound, music, and ultrasonic sensors. The final day includes a challenge competition in which the teams will have 2 minutes 30 seconds to do as many challenges as possible to score the highest number of points.
